Carve marble with a third-generation sculptor

Experience the timeless art of Greek marble sculpting with me, a third-generation sculptor, in a hands-on workshop set in a historic family-owned studio. You’ll discover the intricate techniques of traditional sculpture and witness a live demonstration before creating a piece of your own. No previous skills are required. • I’ll welcome you to the studio and share a little about our family’s sculpting legacy, including our artistic process, inspirations, and current works in progress. • You’ll watch a live demonstration of marble carving, learning about the traditional tools and techniques used by Greek sculptors throughout history. • Now it’s your turn! Sketch your design—maybe initials or a symbol—and then chisel and carve it into a piece of marble. I’ll provide guidance on proper techniques. You’ll leave with your unique memento, and a keen sense of the precision and artistry that goes into marble carving.

On this delicious walk, we’ll explore some of the city’s finest food shops to handpick delicacies for a feast atop Pnyka Hill (aka the Pnyx). You’ll taste the vibrant flavors that define Greek gastronomy, from artisanal cheeses to fresh-baked bread, olives, and traditional sweets. • We’ll meet next to Acropolis Metro station, review our plan for the day, and set off on our walk. • At some of my favorite bakeries, delis, and specialty shops, I’ll help you to choose items for our picnic (included in price), and talk about the production and significance of each product. • We’ll make our way to Pnyka Hill, where we’ll set up a picnic with views of the Acropolis. As we enjoy the food and drinks we’ve gathered, I’ll share more stories about local food traditions. After our time together, you’ll have savored the true essence of Athens—and of Greece’s rich culinary heritage.

Explore the bold flavors and techniques of modern Greek fusion cuisine with me, the chef at Ex Machina, for a three-hour hands-on culinary journey showcasing the region’s freshest ingredients. • I’ll welcome you to Ex Machina with an appetizer and a brief introduction to the concept of modern fusion bistro cuisine. • Under my guidance, you’ll prepare three classic Greek fusion dishes: crispy pie with eggplant and aged Gruyere, saganaki (fried smoked cheese) and dried fruit jam, and pork steak with smoked mussels and pistachios. • Gather around the communal table to enjoy the meal you’ve prepared, swap insights about the cooking experience, and share stories. Connect with Athens’ ancient past on a two-hour walk through its stunning hills with me, an archaeologist and history writer who has lived in the city for more than 25 years. • Meet at the Holy Church of Saint Demetrios Loumbardiaris, a 16th-century chapel, and explore its connection to Athens' Ottoman history. • Visit “Socrates’ Prison,” a cave complex linked to the philosopher's last days, before heading up to the Philopappos Monument for panoramic views of the Acropolis and Piraeus. • Along the way, you’ll trace the Hellenistic Diateichisma Wall, pass ancient rock-cut tombs, and explore Pnyx Hill, where the Athenian Assembly gathered to vote. We’ll finish with a visit to the Ekklesia, the heart of Athenian democracy. You’ll leave with an enhanced perspective on the landscape and the city’s monumental past.
