The Retreat @ Solway House is located within the tiny hamlet of Rigg, 1 mile outside the famous village of Gretna Green. Our semi rural location is only a 3 mile drive from the M6/and just off the A75, the perfect stop over to break up any car journey. Our 1 bed Annex is nestled away in our garden and we provide parking on our driveway for 1 car. Accessed via our garden and private entrance door the annex consists of a double bed, log burner, sofa area, shower room and kitchen/dining area.

Stanwix Cottage dates back to the 1650s when it was part of the coaching Inn which is now the Crown and Thistle. It has been recently fully renovated and is an ideal comfortable base to tour the City of Carlisle, Cumbria, including the Lake District or Southern Scotland. It has three reception rooms including a conservatory overlooking the lovely enclosed garden with patio and three bedrooms, one ensuite. It is within walking distance of the city centre and Rickerby Park and the River Eden.

Quirky little hideaway in the Dalston centre

Recently renovated Annex, is well insulated, cosy peaceful. Upstairs, under the eve’s, original beams are exposed, take care as ceilings do come down low. There is a shower over the bath & separate wc. High quality Anti allergy bedding is used. Downstairs is a kitchenette with microwave, oven, two ring hob & undercounted fridge with freezer compartment. There is under floor heating or multi-fuel fire (please bring own wood/smokeless fuel). There is a tv and super fast fibre WiFi access.

Beautiful 1 bedroom Grade 2 listed house.

Enjoy a stay in a Grade 2 listed 1 bedroom home in a quiet area on the outskirts of Carlisle, yet only 2 minutes from the M6 and a 15 minute walk into the centre of Carlisle. The house was built in 1700 and is in one of only a few conservation areas of the City. The majority of the houses on the street are also Grade 2 listed. Its a beautiful home which has original features. The house is on a quiet, narrow road, which is a no through road, with parking right outside the house.
